If White at his 3rd move play 3 B P x P, threatening R-K R 7, the correct reply is P-Kt 4 ; for if K-Kt 4 there would follow 4 Kt-K 4 eh, K-R 3 ; 5 P-Kt 5 eh, XR4 ; 6 R-K R7, mate ; and if in reply to 3R P x P Black plays P-B 6, then P-R 4, R x P eh ; 5 K-R 3 ; 6 P-R 5, B-Kt 8; 7 Xt-Xt 8, mate. The position is a very fine one and well worth study.
