PENINSULA ROAD BOARD.

The regular monthly meeting of the Peninsula Road Board was held on the 13th, and was attended by Messrs Stuart (chairman), Mackay, Murray, and M'Curdie. The offer from D. Weir, sen., of a road line connecting Oaklands with Portobello road was allowed to lie over till a fuller meeting. Mr R. Mitchell appeared to ask to have the road towards the Mount made. The Bank of New Zealand Estates Company wrote on the Bame subject. The chairman and district members were requested to inspect the road line on the 27th. A letter was received from the Bay Cricket Club asking to have the rates remitted. The collector reported all the rates collected, except from the club and on three properties from which no rates had been received for years. It was resolved to sue for the rates, and, failing satisfaction, to have the properties sold. The board's solicitors wrote giving their opinion that the board was not liable for any damage arising through the break in the culvert at Cintra. Attention was drawn to the objectionable practice of leaving unattended drays on the road. Mr Inglis's road is to be seen to when the work on Fergusson's road is finished. The surfacemen are to cut the Canadian thistles on the roadlines. Accounts for £39 11s 4d were passed for payment.
