A SHORT SESSION.
The autumn session of -Parliament was opened quietly on November 4, and in striking contrast to the closiDg scenes of last session it promises to be of short duration, as the programme is almost non-contentious, and the attitude of the Opposition is distinctly conciliatory. The press have been busy since the opening in discovering defections. Mr Fowler and Lord Kimbcrley are mentioned as two of four allrged defectionists. The former is declared to have demanded further protection for Ulster in the Home Rule Bill. These rumours are entirely unfounded, according to a late despatch. That the Government Bees nothing disturbing in the political outlook is shown by the fact that the Cabinet Council on the 4-th was the first morning meeting of the Miuistry since the Lords' rejection of the Home Rule Bill.
