LETTERS FROM LITTLE FOLKS.
Dear Dot, — As it rather dull to-day I thought 1 would write you a letter. I have olten intended to do so before, but have put it off from time to time. We live in the country and like it very much, especially in summer, as mamma often drives my two sisters and I out to some pretty place to picnic. I go to the seaside for my Christmas holidays. I like wading and bathing very much. My sister Gladys and I have a lob of pets — a dog, a cat, a canary, and some chickens. We had two canaries, but one died, and we had a funeral and buried it in my sister's garden. lam saving my pocket money to buy a Shetland pony. — Yours truly, Lance Raymond (aged 9 years). Wyndham, December 2. Deak Dot, — To-day was wet and I did not go to school, so I thought I would write to you. Our farm is called Brantra. It is about a mile and a-half from our school. The place where I live is surrounded by hills, and is about 12 miles from the township. The township is called Winton, and is aboub 18 miles from Invercargill. I have six brothers and three sisters. Two of my sisters are married. I have three nieces, and two are going to be christened on December 10. One is called Christina Margaret and the other is called Margaret Anne. I am in the Fourth Standard. Miss M'Pherson is my teacher, and I like her very well. We have a lob of chickens, and only one of them died. We are milking three cows ; their names are Lily, Lady Ann, and Rose. Our currants and gooseberries are getting ripe. My sister owns two foals ; will you please give me nice names for them. This is my first letter to you, but I hope you will let me write again. — Yours truly, Ellen M'Rae (aged 11 years). Hokonui, December 8. [Of course you may write again, Ellen. Call the foals Diamond and Sapphire,— Dor.] i
