LIKES TO MOUNT COOK.

Lost in eternal snow, Grand and majestic Tower thy silvered peaks, Ancient and white. Thundering avalanche Booming around thee, Making more silent The silence of night. bright in the moonlight, S*u£e, but cold-hearted, Bternly forbidding, Unyielding and chaste. Treacherous glaciers, Oliding before thee, Bear onward forever Thy limitless waste. Darkly thy spirits loom Sadly above thee ; Shrouded in mystery The centuries go. Terror-struck, awe-driven Spirits, tormented, Lie deep in thy base, Their burdens laid low. Tempest-tossed, storm-riven Chasms abounding, Hide for all ages The secrets of Time. Catinljr thy snow-crested Summits, ascending, Soav grandly aloft In a splendour sublime. Pleasant Point, December 3. —A. J.
