Draughts Players in Public. — Writing of the success of draughts players in civil matters a correspondent says: — Benjamin Rodgers, a well-known Skippers player, was elected member for the Shotover Riding on the Lake County Council by a good majority ; John M'Kinnon was just barely defeated for James Riding, Tuap ck a County ; Stephen Boreham (brother to J. A B.) who was a candidate for Timaruseatin Pa r liament, stated ma political address one evening that he had that day shorn 120 sheep and walked 15 miles into town ; and Mr Raeside was elected mayor of Invercargill.
