DuvmooN. —The best performance on record for the long jump is 2'Jft 7in, by Jack Howard, of Bradford, England, put up at the Newmarket racecourse, the take-oft being from a block of wood. The world's amateur iecord is 23ft (iin, by J. S. Jtteber, America, and O. B. Fry, Jflnglancl, the take-off iv these two cases being from a block of wood let into the ground flush with the surface, a sod in front of the blosk to bhe dci)th of a few inches being removed, &o that it is impossible for the jumper to cross the take off block.
