(Peb Pbess Association.) London, May 1. Sir Charles Tupper has asked Lord Ripon to urge the payment of a subsidy to Huddart, Parker, and Co. for the Vancouver-Australian line of steamers. The Un '■ r-secretary for the Colonies replied that he viewed the proposal with favour and would consult the Admiralty and Postal authorities on the subject. Sir John Thompson, Premier of Canada, is cooperating with Sir C. Tupper in the request he has made to the Colonial Office. Messrs Huddart, Parker, and Co.'s agents in Canada Bay that if the New South Wales Government would subsidise the service it might to a large extent induce the Imperial Government to assist. In connection with the service, which will be commenced by the Miowera on the 18th inst., from Sydney, Messrs DaJgety and Co. have been appointed agents in Dunedin for the Canadian-Pacific Railway Company, and are prepared to issue through passage tickets.
