HAMILTON SOUTH.

September 26.— A very successful concert and dance was held in the schoolhouse on Friday, 9th inst., , the proceeds being in aid of the school funds. The chair was occupied by Mr Foster, the chairman of the school committee. Owing to the untiring exertions of ticket sellers and the able assistance of the school committee, the proceeds are very satisfactory, over Lll having been taken. The schoolhouse was full, numbers* standing in the porch. The concert was opened by a pianoforte duet, "Canary bird's quadrilles," by Miss Irvine and Miss Mathias, the following items succeeding it:— Song in character "Mr Fox," school children ; "Sweet Evelina," Mr John Roberts, who. also sang in the after part of the programme a song entitled "Susy Saul"; duet, 11 List to the convent bells," Misses Hooper and Flamank; "The charming young widow," Mr Hiahley ; recitation, " Pardon,' 1 Mr M'Skimmiug ; " Isle of beauty," Miss Campbell ; glee, " Oh, who will o'er the downs," Misses Hooper and Flamank and Messrs Homo and Hooper : pianoforte solo, " The Sultan's grand march, Miss Irvine. This concluded the first part of the programme." The second part was opened by a pianoforte duet by Misses Mathias and-Lucy Mathias, " HCorricolo ; then followed a cat farce by. ten school children, which pleased the juvenile portion of the audience immensely; song, ''Put on do golden sword," Mr Saunders, and " Climbing the golden stairs " as an encore ; duet, " On tho blue wave," Miste3 Mathias and Irvine; "Leave- not your "Kathleen," Mrs Samuels, encore, "A lock of mother's baiv" ; "Old messmates," Mr Hooper;;',' A summer shower," Miss Mathias: pianoforte -solo, "Merry peasant," Miss Lucy Mathias ; -trio, "The little pigs," Messrs Saunders, Hooper, and Home, encore, " Here's a health tp all good lasses." After thanking the performers' and the audience, the chairmauannouncingtho National Anthem, which closed a very enjoyable concert. A dance followed, which was kept up till an early hour.
