BALD HILL FLAT.
September .26. —A concert was held in the local schoolhouse on Friday evening last in aid of the funds of the Dunstau Hospital, and I haveno hesitation in saying that it took the palm as betng the most successful, enjoyable, 'and best carried out entertainment ever held .here. This can easily be accounted for when I mention that the arrangements were solely carried out by the ladies of the place ; and also that" a- considerable number of those present came for the purpose of hearing the singing of Mrs Shaw, of Clyde, the leading lady singer of the Vincent County, who deserves the very best thanks of the inhabitants for her pluck in coming 15 or 16 miles on a very rough night to oblige them. The first item on the programme was an overture by Miss C. Kemp (piano) and Mr J. Galvin (violin) ; Mrs R. Symes and Miss Komp, duet,"Two cousins" ; Mr Stewart, reading ; Miss JU Stabb, " Dreaming of home and mother " (encore) ; Mrs Shaw, " Good night " and i " Jessie's dioaiu" as an encoro soDg; Mr Greenlees, " Our Jack's came home to-day"; Miss Stewart, " Barney, take me home again " ; Mrs M'Nicol, "Robin Adaii" ; Master Murphy, Irish jig ; Miss I. Carroll, " Eileen Alanna." After an interval of 10 minutes tho ball was again set rolling with a piano duet by Miss C. Kemp and Miss M. Crossan, "Silver wedding"; Mr G. Simmonds, song, "Are you going to the ball this evening"; Mrs Shaw, "The murmor of the shell", and, "The fgolden shore" as an encore; Mr Greenlees, " Nancy Lee " ; Mr Jones, tragic recitation; Mrs M'Nicol, " Juanita'.'-; .Miss Kemp. "The fisherman and his child "; Miss Carroll, "The gap in the bridge"; MrsSym^s, . "Thy voice": Misses C. Kemp andT. Stabb, piano duet; Misses M. and E. Murphy, " Erin's green shores"; Miss L. Stabb', "The flower girl" and "The blacksmith" as an encore ; Miss Stewart, "Katy's letter" ; and the proceedings were brought to a close by Mr Galvin dancing a darkey hornpipe, after " God save the Queen " had been sung by those present. Mr Butler, who presided, then returned thanks to the performers for their services ; and after refreshments had been handed round the room was cleared for dancing, which, was kept up to tho early hoiirs next morning.
