CHRISTCHURCH CORN EXCHANGE.
The following is the Corn Exchange report (per Fred. Denham, secretary) for the week ending August 20 :— Wheat market drags, millers holding off for the present, and shippers cannotpive within measurable distance price asked for prime milling. B.vrley : No good malting offering, and other kinds neglected. Oats : A number of inquiries during the week, but holders have followed their usual tiictict-, and as soon as market showed a little firmness piled the agony on to such a degree that operation*) have been few, and in come instances orders havebeen driven away tootherplaces though they could have been filled here at 1 eniunerative prices. Potatoes : We are almost afraid to write it, but we must record operations that come under our notice. Seveial spot lines sold this week at 103 per ton. Grass seed decidedly easier. The following are prices paid to farmers f.o.b. (packages extra, potatoes excepted) :— Wheat : Prime miling, 3a Bd. Barley Hsecond rate, 2s 9d to 3s. Oats :
Milling, 2s ; seed Tartars, 23. Potatoes, 10s to 15s. Ryegrass : Machine-dressed, 3s to 3s 3d. Cheese, 3Jd to sd. Butter: Fresh factory, Is. Pease: Blues, 3s 3d : field, 2s 6d. Beans, 3s to 3s 3d.
