WAIKAKA VALLEY.
August 23. — The weather has been fine during -the past week or two, and good progress has been made with the ploughing. The flats, which were very wet till last week, are now in f.iir order for ploughing. In some places harrowing might be attempted, although I have not heard of such work having been commenced. There is a good deal still to plough, but it seems probable that sowing will be started at the proper time. A considerable area will be under oats. The new growth of grass is noticeable, although it is still very short. Paddocks which have not been laid down more than two years, and which have been •lightly stopped during the winter, afford a fair bite of new grass. Lambs are to be seen in a few places, and fire doing well in paddocks such as those described in the previous sentence, but in some cases they have appeared too soon. The unmade roads are nearly dry.
