BURNS CLUB.
There was a large gathering of members of the Burns Club in the Choral Hall on the 17th, and a very pleasant time was spent. Mr A. J. Burns, president of the club, occupied the chair, and was supported byMrJ. Gillies, the vice-president. MrK. Chisholm gave an interesting accountof the scenes he had yLsited during his recent trip to Scotland, and recited many amusing anecdotes in connection therewith. Songs were Riven during the evening by Sir M'Lauchlan ("Scots wha hac"), Miss M'Queen(" Ye b inks and braes ot bomiieDoon"), Mr W. Morrison (" JJattlc of Stirling "), TVliss Johnson (" Ciller herrin' "), Mr J. T. I'rain ("Stranded on the braes of Mar"), and Mr Braik. The choir sang "Why left I my name?" under the conductorbhip of Mr Braik, introducing a trio and quartet; and a quartet "Nannie, will thou gang wi' me? "was also given. Mr Brown gave a recitation in capital style, and the gathering terminated with a dance, in which .country dances (Seotti.-h) weie intioduced, it being tho aim of the club to make these more popul.n. Scottish selections were played by the club's piper (Mr Itf'Glashan) during the evening, and were much appreciated.
