THE PECULIAR CURRENCY OP MONGOLIA.

In his newly-published volume "From the Arctic Ocean to the Yellow Sea" Mr Julius M. Price gives some interesting information regarding the peculiar currency of Mongolia, which takes a lot of getting used to. On one occasion, he says, I bought Borne trifling article and paid for it in Russian monty, which the Mongols are, at anyrate, Bhrewd enough never to refuse. Imagine my surprise when, for change, I was handed a small

SLAB OF BRICK TEA and two dirty little bits of floss silk which I should have passed unnoticed in the gutter. These rags, which intrinsically were probably worth le3s than a farthing, represented 20 kopeks (6d), while the tea waß equivalent to 30 kopeka. This tea is the only real currency throughout Mongolia ; the silk is becoming gradually obsolete, probably because it wears out too coon, whereas the tea will stand almost any amount of hard wear.
