Mr Skene reports under date August 23 :—: — August brings round ploughing and seed time in earnest, and there is plenty of work now for the right sort of ploughmen. 'This is so far good. But what are we to do with the oig crop of young men who can do nothing in particular? Where would they be but for the rabbiting ? Town work is almost at a standstill, as building operations <£c, arc very limited. Country wages keep very good and regular.
