GORE MONTHLY HORSE FAIR

Messrs Wright, Stephenson, and Co. report :—: — We held our monthly horse fair at Holland's Bazaar on Thursday, 18th inst., when perhaps the largest and best collection of draught norse 3 ever offered in Southland came under the hammer. The entry, which numbered 91 in all, consisted nearly altogether of draught mares and pcldings, the greater number of which were really firstclass animals ; in fact the sale throughout was conspicuous by the absence of inferior sorts of any description. For these a fair demand prevailed, and the prices obtained were on the whole satisfactory. Of those forward we sold 39, and could easily have disposed of a much larger number at very good prices, but in many cases vendors' reserves were altogether too high. Eleven of those sold brought from L2O to L2B 10s, i and 17 from Lls toL1910s; others from LQ 10s to Ll4 53. Unbroken horses brought equally satisfactory prices, selling from Lls to LlB 10s for three-year-old colts and fillies. Light horses were very scarce, although the few entered were of a superior stomp, and sold readily up to Ll2. We quote : First-class draughts (extra heavy), L 25 to L3O ; good do, LlB to L 24;2 4; medium do, Ll2 to Ll6. As very few light horses are offering, we refrain from quoting.
