A heavy earth slip, estimated at 100 tons, ocourred on Friday night about a mile south of "the Patea railway station. The Antimony Company's mine and property at Endeavour Inlet, offered by auction at Wellington, failed to elicit a bid. The Ashburton Borough Council very properly decjined a request from the Cycling Club to allow training on the Domain on Sunday. Fit guaranteed or money returned. • A boatman has ]U6t, found in the bed of the Thames at Hampton Court -what appears to be a relict of early British times — an ancient British canoe, made of the trunk of a tree, the interior having been burned or scooped out. It is about 30ft lo.ng and 3ft in width, and is quite black. Otherwise it is in good preservation. It has probably lain in the river bed for centuries, and might have remained there still but for the present dredging operations.
