GREYMOUTH RACES.
First Day — March 17,
Heavy rain fell during the greater part of the afternoon. The attendance at the races was fair. Results :—: —
Juvenile Stakes (two years).— Black Moses, 7.2 (Charenton), 1 ; Clough's Lord Lyons, 7.2, 2 ; Lutz Hans, 6.13, 3. Brimble's Silver Rose was an evident winner when the jockey fell off coming into the straight. Time, lmin 35sec. Dividend, L 3 14s 6d.
Metropolitan Stakes Handicap, of 150sovs. One mile and a-half.— Gresking's Harkaway, 8.10, 1 ; Ross' Martha, 8.0, 2 ; Hobbs' Quibble, 9.0, 3. Hungerford's La Rose also ran. Time, 2min 52sec. Total, 114. Dividend, L 3 11s. St. Patrick's Handicap, of 50sovs. One mile. — Allan's Mariner, 8.12, 1 ; Claughessy's Maid of the Valley, 7.6, 2; M'Breart/s Miss Lacey, 7.0, 3. La Rose, York Rose, and Miss Ann also ran. A grand race, all in a cluster to the finish. Time, lmin 54sec. Total, L 370. Dividend, L 4 6s.
The Hurdle Race was postponed to be the first race next day.
Second Day — March 22.
Owing to rain the second day's racing had to be postponed till Tuesday. Clarice (10.2) won the Hurdle race, paying L 2 4s ; Lady Zetland (8.7) the Railway Stakes, paying L 7 16s, with Mariner (9.0) second and La Rose (8.2) third. With 9.2 up Lady Zetland also won the Brunner Handicap, paying L 2 13s, Maid of the Valley and Harkaway supplying the others placed. The Ace won the Hurdle race, beating Clarice and Mayboy, and paying L 9 7s. Maid of the Valley secured the Consolation.
