Advices received by the Native department show that the completed returns for the Northern Maori district were as follows :— Sydney Taiwhanga, 661; Tinoti Pupipupi, 394; Wiremu Eatene, 192 ; Wiremu Mikihana, 107. Another poll will be taken. Mr James Carroll has been elected for the Eastern Maori electorate, polling 1596 against Wi Pere's 1411. Auckland, December 1. The present returns of the Western Maori electorate show that HoneTaipua has polled 1229 votes, and Eketone 500. Three returns are yet to come in, but all will likely be in ffaipua's favour. The returning officer for the Northern Maori district (Mr Bishop) has posted the writ with the name of Sydney Taiwhanga as that ef the elected candidate. A telegram from Rotorua says the returns from Tepuke, in the Eastern electorate, have not come to hand, owing to the fact that there were not sufficient voters' papers, only 50 having been sent for about 200 electors.

The export of coal from Greymouth for last week was 3209 tons.
