ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY.
The monthly meeting of the Acclimatisation Society, held at the Government buildings on Tuesday, was attended by Messrs J. P. Maitland (in the chair), W. Carlton, J. Edgar, R. Campbell, R. Chisholm, A. C. Begg, and N. V, A. Wales.
Mr G. M. Adams, of Reefton, wrote stating that the 20,000 ova forwarded by the society had hatched out without loss, and that as he was forming a society he would be obliged for a copy of rules.— lt was agreed to forward a copy as requested. Ranger Burt wrote stating that he had secured- a conviction against a man named Walker for fishing at Milton without a license. A telegram was received from Mr Wilkie giving the result of the medal competition as follows :-D. Reid (8|lb), 1 ; Melrose (7^1b),2. The Oamaru Society wrote forwarding a clipping from a newspaper giving particulars of a conviotion obtained against two men for offering trout for sale. Mr Ayson, of Linburn station, having written offering to aot as hon. ranger for the society, it was agreed to forward his name to the Government.
Ranger Deans wrote asking for permission to catch and present Colonel Sargoodwith two white swans. Mr John Reid, of Elderslie, had promised to give permission to take them from his own ponds if Mr Deans would arrange for catching them. — Permission was granted as requested. The motion standing in Mr Wilkie's name with reference to the sale of the Opoho property lapsed, and Mr Begg gave notice to move in the same direction next meeting*
The Secretary reported that the number of licenses issued this season was as follows:—Men's 395 ; boys', 73 ;— total, 468.
Accounts amounting to £12 18s 8d were passed for payment.
