The Wellington Steeplechase meeting at the Hutt was a great success. About 2000 were present, the weather was splendid, and the course in capital order. No Name and Shillelagh unseated their jockeys. Te Ngamu then went. for the first water jump, and after a baulk or two got over. Oddfellow fell in the middle, but scrambled through ar.d went in pursuit of the leader. Both horses cleared the stiff post and rail fence at the far 6ide of the course splendidly. The other horses in the meantime were still stuck up at the gorse fence by the road. At the second water jump Te Ngamu fell and his jockey was unseated in the water. Oddfellow cleared it just behind, and both came along for the sod fence in front of the stand. Neither horse would look at it, and were tried at least a dozen times. At last Oddfellow climbed over, leaving the favourite on the wrong side. By this time Rata had negotiated the other obstacles, and was coming along all alone.
