NEW ZEALAND STOCK AT THE CENTENNIAL SHOW.
The special reporter of the Melbourne Argus gives the following particulars of the classes in which New Zealand stock were exhibited at the Centennial Agricultural and Pastoral Show at Sydney :— • The Ayrshires were very numerous, and of better quality than has ever been seen on this ground before. In the bull class there was a good competition. The first and Centennial prizes were given to Young Baron, bred by Messrs Cargill and Anderson, New Zealand, and shown by Mr H. H. Brown. Mr A. L. Park was placed second with a bull bred by the late Mr R. Gibson, of Melbourne. Mr D. W. Warden showed a New Zealand bred bull, which was awarded the third prize. Mr W. Lindsay's exhibit, bred in Victoria, and Mr J. E. Pemell's exhibit, bred in New Zealand, were commended. In this class there were eight bulls bred in New Zealand, and five from Victorian herds. In the two-year-old class Mr J. E. Pemell was first, with a bull bred by the late Mr R. Gibson, of Victoria, and Mr A. L. Park was second. Mr J. Lindon was first with a bull under two years, and Mr J. Thompson was second. In the aged cow class, there were eight New Zealand and three Victorian bred animals. The first and champion prizes were given to Mr T. L. Peate for a New Zealand bred cow, and he also gained the second prize. Messrs Badgery Brotoers were third with a well-bred cow. In the two-year-old class Mr J. Lindsay was first with a heifer of his own breeding, and Mr T. L. Peate was second with a heifer bred by the late Mr R. Gibson, of Melbourne. In the yearling class Mr J. E. Pemell was first, and Mr T. L. Peate second. Mr J. Monaghan, of Shoalhaven, gained the Centennial prize for four heifers. The Alderneys were a great improvement on those at previous shows, and the New Zealand and Victorian herds were well represented. In the bull class, Mr J. M'Lauchlin was first with a Victorian bred animal. The class for cows was a very fine one. Mr S. H. Hyam gained the first and champion prizes, and he also got the second prize for a Victorian bred cow. Mr W. M. Inglis was third with a New Zealand cow. In the two-year-old class Mr W. Inglis was first, Mr R. L. Tooth second, and Sir R. Wisdom third, Mr R. L, Tooth was first in the yearling class,
Tho show of pigs was an interesting one, owing to the splendid lot of white pigs brought forward by Mr Jas. Rowe, of Chriatchurch. But for his exhibits the show would have been inferior to most country shows. Mr Rowe gained seven first prizes and four Centennial prizes. His stock was ef excellent quality, and was greatly admired, few of those visiting the show having seen as many white pigs before. Mr B. M. Betts was the only other exhibitor who gained a first prize in the white classes.
