Febhuary 7. — The charge of the Wesleyan Church has been takeu over by tho Rev. Mr Birks, from the North, and that gentleman preached his first sermon in the church on Sunday last.

•Weather and Crops —For the present season of the year the weather, could not be more unfavourable to farmers generally. Had there been fine weather, harvest work would by this time have made a good start. Crops of oats are now ready for the reaper, but the rain effectually prevents tho commencing of operations. Last week the mountains wore a coating of &now, and altogether the weabher is most unseasonable.

Hoeticdltukal.— On account of the apathy displayed by the public at the recent show held by this society, at a late meeting ifc was decided that the show intended to be held in March shall be allowed to lapse, and that; the next exhibition be held on February 17, 1889. Mr W. Quin was elected president for the ensuing 3'ear, Mr Alex. Mason vice-president, and Mr J. X Menztes secretary and treasurer. An influential (wmmifctee was also appointed. Mr W. Quin, the winner of the champion prize (the Dresdeu Company's organette), has presented the article to the society for competition next year.
