SOUTHLAND LAND BOARD.

The following business was transacted at the meeting of this body held on the 2nd inst.:—

Applications Granted.— To complete purchase: Patrick Ford, section 7, block V, Chatton; Peter Hansen, section 14, block I, Mossburn village ; Thomas Hughes, section 52, block IV, Invercargill Hundred ; David Young, sections 28 to 30, and 51, block 111, Menzies Ferry ; J. Miller, section 18, block IV, Menzies Ferry ; Robert Brown, section 73, Wairio ; John Meehftn, section 16, block 11, Drumtnond village; Henry Ranee, section 3, block XVII, New River Hundred. The transfer of section 18, block I, Wenrtonside, from Wilson Hall to D. C. Hall and Albert Hall was sanctioned. J. H. Perkins, clerk to the Knapdale Road Board, requested that a road line should be reserved through section 15, block 11, Chatton, to the Waikaka river, to join the surveyed road on the west side of the river.— Letter received, the board having no power to interfere. The licensee of section 9, block I, Wendonside, asked permission to surrender his section.—Section declared forfeited in accordance with the application. W. G. Fox offered £5 per annum for the lease for grazing purposes of the unsold portion of blocks XVII and XIX, New River Hundred.— It was agreed to recommend the Government to throw open the land for lease for a term of 21 years, at an upset of £5 per year. Mrs Rose requested that a neighbouring settler should be compelled to erect a substantial fence between their properties. — Ranger to report. . , The following nine tenders were received at per acre for the perpetual lease of section 15, block 11, Chatton :— George Cruickshank, 5s Id ; Peter Thomas Aitkin, 4s 6d ; Thomas Harvey, 2? 8d; Peter Abernetby, 3s ; John Dickson, 3s 1H ; Hugh Morton, 3s Id ; Georgo H. M'Donald, 2s 7d; Andrew Harvey, 5s 2d ; and Peter Fiskin, 3s Id.— Andrew Harvey being the highest tenderer was declared entitled to the section at 5s 2d per acre. Hannah Beaton offered Is 6d per acre for the perpetual lease of section 13, block I, Wendonside.—She being the only tenderer, it was decided, in accordance with the terms of the act, to declare her the lessee of the section at Is per acre, that being the upset price. Alexander M'Gregor was granted the perpetual lease of section 20, block I, Wendonside, at Is per acre. Joseph Lyle, on behalf of James Phillips, applied for permission to construct a tramway from Oraki to Round Hill.— Applicant to be advised to apply to the warden. A largely signed petition from settlers in the Waikawa, Upper Otara and Mokoreta districts was read requesting the board to divide all lands reserved for settlement on Run 177, Waikawa, into hundreds.— The chief commissioner was requested to visit and report. James Gardner applied for authority to take coal for household purposes from pastoral lease land held by him in the Wairio district.— lt was resolved to grant the applicant permission to take what coal he required exclusively for his own use.
