During the past two months, many of the leading Pharmacists of Britain have given great attention to this artiole, owing to its value in medicine as a Dietetic Sweetener, it having been proved to have no effect upon diabetic and gouty subjects. Not only is SACCHARINE invaluable in all pharmacy, but also in all domestic uses, Fruit Preserving, Brewing, Wine Fortifying, Tobacco Sweetening, Mineral Waters, Syrups, Essences, &0., and every day fresh uses are developing. SACCHARINE is, in addition to ite Sweetening Qualities, a Good Antiseptic, ana is unfermentable and uncrystallisable, hence :fe has advantages possessed by no other products, For instance, in pharmacy in all cases whero sugar is used only as a flavouring agent^-asia Syrup of Phosphate of Iron, Eastern's Syrup, &c.— in many of whioh the great diffionlty has been to prevent crystallisation. In all disagreeable compounds, such as mixtures^ containing" soda, ealicylate, cascara sagrada, quinine, &0., it has great power in covering the objectionable tastes. IN DOMESTIC USES, for all purposes in which sugar is needed as a sweetener, it is invaluable, as it cannot possibly affect the system, and may be used by everyone, irrespective of age or condition : is inoouous. in 80 grain doses daily, having no effect even on tho appetite or digestion. Half to IJgr will sweeteo. a cup of tea or coffee. It retards fermentation where sugar would promote it. One of the largest confectioners in England is now using it in their lozenge factory. FRUIT PRESERVING. Being an antiseptic, all that is necessary is to put the fruit in a jar or bottle, using either a solution of Sflocharine or' a solution of gluooea sweetened with Sacoharine, aud the original character of the fruit is not damaged. JAM MAKING. It win not be necessary to boil in order to m,»ke it keep, and no crystallisation will take plice, and the fruit instead of being all mashed up will be in the original form. (The cost will be about the same as ufling sugar, bufc no loss will be caused by the bouiq which always rises under the present system. BREWING. This is important. A London firm has jusfc settled a monoply which will cover 40 '{Billion barrels of beer. From the faot of it being unfermentable, it cannot be used for making worte, but aB a sweetener or purifier after the beer is brewed. Beer sweetened with Sacoharine will not fret, and is not affected by temperature. WINE FORTIFYING. Wine may be sweetened without fear of fomentation, and a saving at least of 50 per cent, effected in the amount of spirit necesoaiy to preserve the wine after the addition of the sweetener, if Saccharine is used. Wine thus fortified can be imported into England at the lower rafco of duty payable on French wines. It is believed that if Saccharine is used, the addition of spirit will be only required to keep the wine bright when diluted, and not as a preservative as at present. S*CCffA»INE being fully 300 times sweeter than Cane Sugar it is possible to detect the sweet taste when one part is dissolved in 70,000 parts of distilled water— i.e., one grain per gallon. It is sparingly soluble in cold water, more so in warm, thoroughly so in spirits and in water containing bicarbonate soda; and to meet the difficulty of insolubility in water, a soluble salt is beiog made' to make it perfectly soluble in water. Consumers can either have the pure Saccharine or the Sacoharine . which contains 9092 per cent, of the pure. Our first supply of Saccharine is just to hand, and we are also now prepared to take indents from consumers. Although we have secured the absolute right of handling all importations of Saccharins to the colony, we have determined to make the terms satisfactory to buyers.
