LAND BOARD.
The ordinary meeting of the Land Board was held on Wednesday. Present s The chief commissioner (Mr J. P. Maitland), Messrs Duncan, Logan, Clark, and Dallas. An application by Watscn Abram to have 20* acres .of the south-west portion of section 2, block XIII, Greenvale, opened on perpetual lease was referred to the ranger for report. Hugh M'Cloy applied for grazing right over section 29, block IV, Gimmerburn, — Referred to the chief clerk. Messrs Reid and Son wrote with reference to Mr Carnie's section 9, block VII, Mount Hyde, that the rauger's recommendation as to keeping suitable access had not been given effect to in the survey. — The board resolved that no alteration could now be made in the survey.
With respect, to a memo, from Inspector Mills suggesting that the grazing right over sections in block I, Tuapeka West, be granted to John Comach, the board decided that the land being within a hundred the request could not be complied with. . O. E. Hayward's application for grazing right over section 11, block I, Woodlands, Pile* Station Reserve, was referred to the chief commissioner.
Mr James Nevill, on behalf of his daughter, asked that sections 18, 19, 20, 22, 23, and 24, block 111, Poolburn, be opened for perpetual leasing. — Government recommended accordingly. An adjourned application by MrsE.Biown to occupy Crown land in block IV, Gimniß*burn, in consideration of killing rabbits thereon, was declined.
The board approved of plans of road lines forwarded by the Lake County Council.on which they proposed to expend the sum of £51 5s 9d; also of the plans forwarded by the Balmoral Road Board for an expenditure of £213 12s 2d in Waitahuna West. The Maniototo Council also forwarded plans of road lines on which they proposed to expend various amounts, and which were approved. Mr Thomas Paterson reapplied to purchase section 12, block XIV, Chatton district, which, although withheld, was not required for mining. — Referred to the ranger for report. The Southland Education Board asked that three acres in section 8, block IV, Otara, be reserved as a school site. — Licensees consent to be forwarded with plan of proposed area. A letter from Mr V. Pyke re the capital value of sections at Greenvale and Wendon being fixed at 20s per acre was, at applicant's request deferred for a week. The Under-secretary intimated that the Minister of Lands approved of section 18, block 11, Maerewhenua, being sub-divided into small farm lots under the village settlement conditions.
Banger Hughan, reporting on application by J. Walnosky to lease 50 acres of bush reserve, blouk I, Clarendon, recommended that the application be refused, but that 200 acres be subdivided into small areas of from 10 to 20 acres each, and opened under the village settlement system on perpetual lease. — The Government to be recommended accordingly ; about 60 acres of best bush to be reserved.
John F, Fallowfield applied to have 50 acres of section 59, block VI, Clarendon, opened under the village settlement system. — Government recommended accordingly.
Mr F. W. Plew asked for the grazing right over the quarry and bridge reserve in block 5, Lauder district, on the same conditions as he holds the quarry reserve. — Referred to the chief commissioner.
The following deferred-payment licenses were approved: — William Leask, jun., section 7, block I, Tiger Hill ; Jas. Riddle, section 9, block V, Otara. The application of J. H. Bruhus to rescind forfeiture of and capitalise section 10, block ill, Rock and Pillar, was granted. The following applications to capitalise were approved : — Annie Currie, section 16, block IV, Swinburn ; Edward Taylor, section 1, block VII, Wendon ; Jno. J. Argyle, section 22, block VII, Wendon.
A transfer' of section 10, block VIII, Kurow, from G. J. Hobson to Cornelius Shine was approved ; also an application by Jas. Nevill to com plete purchase of section 5, block IX, Tiger Hill. The Perpetual Trustees, for Mr Alex. M'Rae, applied for lease of Forest Reserve adjoining section 18, block VI, Budle. — Referred to the chief commissioner.
Ohas. Bushnell applied to lease reserve between the river and block VIII, Wyndham — Section to be offered for sale as land of special value, having been withheld from sale at 21s per acre. The board considered a report by the district land officer, Naseby, on an application by Meshra Pile and Hill for perpetual leases for section 20, block VII, and section 3, block X, Blackstone, with letter from Mr R. A. Carter objecting to the same. — The board, decided that from the report Messrs Pile and Hill were in a position to make the declaration required by the act.
