PORTO BELLO.
Atjgu&t 16.—A meeting of the Hooper's Inlet School Committee was held on the 14th. A letter was read from the Education Board stating that arrangements had been made with the present teacher to remain until September Ist, when the new teacher would assume office. The clerk reported having received notice that the last quarter's allowance, amounting to £5 10s, had been paid into the bank to the credit of the committee. Accounts to the amount of £2 18s were passed for payment. The use of the school was granted to Mr S. M. Clark for the purpose of conducting a singing class one night per week. Weather.—Since tho beginning of the month we have had very bad weather—snow, rain, hail, and wind being the order of the day. As a consequence the ground is in an exceedingly wet state, and cattle feed is becoming very scarce. There is a good demand for hay, and old stacks* that were looked upon as worthless are eagerly sought for, and the cattle are glad to get the contents, nothing else being available.
