A Glasgow Divorce Case.

Lord Fraser heard evidence to-day at the Edinburgh Court of Session, m an action brought by Helen Stobo or Aiton, 16 Colebrooke street, Hillhead, Glasgow, for divorce from her husband, John Aiton, civil engineer, sometime of Fairlie Park, Partick, afterwards munafacturer at Boddam, near Peterhead, and now m New Zealand or Tasmania. The pursuer, on record, states that she was married to the defender on 10th August 1865 at Glasgow, and thereafter and up till January 1879 they resided together at Boddam and elsewhere. On the last-mentioned date the defender, not having sncceeded m business, made up his mind to go to Australia, with the intention, after he had pushed his fortune there, of returning to his wife and five children. Until 26th March 1880 he corresponded with his family, but since that date the pursuer had never heard from him. Neither did she hear anything of him until August 1884, when she received from some unknown source m New Zealand a copy of the Otago Daily Times of 18th June 1884, containing a report of the trial of an action of damages for breach of promise at the instance of Frances Fynmore, a widow, m Dunedin, against John Aiton, civil engineer. From the judge's notes it appeared that the widow had borne a child to Aiton In that action a verdict was given for Mrs Fynmore, the damages being assessed at £250 Since the defender had left this country lie had not contributed anything towards the support of his wife and family. Lord Fraser gave decree of divorce on the ground of desertion.
