Labour Markets.
Mr Skbnk reports for the week ending June 10th :— I cannot; give any chewing nnws. Work i 9 being carried on >n town and cou 1 try in a half hearted way. Farmers musi put in crops or s'atve. I : is impos=ible to piy high wages at present prices for produce. Tradesmen are tho samo. Oontracfs are run to the lowo t starving point. It is unpleasant to write in this gloomy wav, but the tvuth must out, and with all classes of labour prospects get darker. Certainly some public wo? ks occupy a few, but there is no real progress. Land is a dru/ in the market, so is house property. There is only one thing which will bring wageß and prospeiity, and that is a decided reaction in the price of grain and wool, &2. Tha Old World should trvko the lead. Until this change comes we must brave it out — dodging the bailiffs and tho moitgigera in the meantime There are always a few farm, station, and dairy people— also country girls— wanted.
