In the House of Commons yesterday, Mr Gladstone stated in roply to a question that the negotiations between England and Russia on the Afghan frontier question are still unfinished. Mr Gladstone annojnced that he would ' make a statement on Friday in regard to the Coercion Act in Ireland. t In the House of Commons to-day the memorial presented by the recent Maori embassy as brought up for consideration. During the i discussion that took place the Hon. A. Evelyn Ashley, M.P., Parliamentary Undersecretary for the Colonies, stated in the course of his speech that the memorial would receive due consideration, but that the Imperial Government were not entitled to interfere in the , international affairs of any Colony to whicb the right of self-government had been granted. _/JL June 6".
