THE NEXT ENGLISH ELEVEN.

The Argus states that the English Eleven which will visit the Colonies next season under the captaincy of the Hon. Ivo Bligh has now been finally selected, and will leave England in October by the s.s. Austral. The team is without doubt one of the strongest organisations of its kind that has ever left England, both the amateur and professional element being strongly represented. The following are the namea of the 12 players forming the team and the counties to which they belong : — Hon. Ivo Bligh and E. F. S. Tylecote (Kent), G. B. Studd, C. T. Studd, G. F. Vernon, and O. F. H. Leslie (Middlesex), A. G-. Steel and Barlow (Lancashire), W. W. Read (Surrey), Barnes and Flowers (Nottingham), and Bates (Yorkshire). The team is a strong one in every department of the game, having as bowlers Messrs A. G-. Steel, the best amateur in England ; C. T. Studd, who bowled so well against the Australians; Bates and Barlow, whose perform ances as members of Shaw's professional team are familiar to all cricketing colonists; and Flowers, and Barnes, both well-known professional bowlers, claiming allegiance both to Notts county and the Marylebone Club. In batting the team is wonderfully strong, as every member of it is a more than capable performer, and several are reckoned among the finest batsmen in England. C. T. Studd, who has on two separate occasions scored over 100 against the Australian team now in England, is regarded as one of the finest batsmen of the day ; while C. F. H. Leslie, A. G. Steel, W. W. Read, G. F. Vernon, and G. B. Studd are all brilliant performers. The four professionals are also first-class batsmen, and altogether a dangerous quartette. E. F. S. Tylecote is the wicket-keeper of the team, and tho only one about whose coming there appears to be any uncertainty. Should he be unable to undertake the tour, Pilling will supply hi 3 place.
