Sir —In reply to an advertisement, I wrote, about Bix weeks a<*o, to Gram's Registry Office and Labour Exchange, enclosing the usual fee of half.a-crown, in in order that I might jrot a ploughman's billet. In about a week I leeeived a letter from Grant, to the effect that he thought I was unfit for such a billet as I applied for. I ajjaiii applied to Mr Grant for a place, will have not yet received any answer. I also sent half-a-crovm to Mr bkenc, but he did not reply to me A sreat deal of such-liko dealings probably co on 'at these places for once- the money h f.iyen there ts m ceitainty r.hat anything will be received m value for it. All that is even promised in return for the fee charged is, than the proprietor of the labour exchange " uses his best endeavours to satisfy holders nf Hrtrets " Persons can never know whether he uses any endeavour at all to find employment for those who apply to him. As to Mr Skene talking about i,nm?°i^rion I think he need not do so until those who are* to the Colony are better provided for.
