The heavy rainfalls on the ranges came down in the shape ofsmall torrents with groat rapidity, and swelled the Kaihiku stream to such an extent that some of the old say that it has not attained to such a height for the past 12 years. The railway was almost submerged Tho 4.30 train from Dunedin on Saturdnj wAs almost an hour behind time, as owing to tbc water on the line it hod to go at a tardy speed. , Warepa and Kaibiku," before my time in the district, had each a cricket club, the members of which, by practising vigorously, became renowned cricket men, and often had the pleasure of playing against or with the Dunedin clubs. The.se local clubs were unfortunately "squashed," and cricket has since bee, at ft discount In the district. Now is the time for ' some of our young men to combine and collect fundk for the establishment of a club that would be ready for action ere the season drawß nigh. ' The roads throughout the district are a dreadful irjectacle. One in particular, known as the Hillfoot road, is in an intolerable condition, in some portions It being next to impassable. ; The rain has now cleared off ; old Sol has come gut Jn all his glory, and frost reigns supreme. I trus| the change may result in a few weeks' fine weather, 8 > that ploughing may be gone on with. ,
