LAND BOARD.

The ordinary meeting of the Land Board was held on Wednesday. Present : The Chief Commissioner (Mr J. P. Maitland), Messrs J. Duncan, J. B. Bradshaw, and H. Clark.

MATUKITUKT RIVER.

Messrs Colville !and Tome applied for permission to occupy Run 408 in this district, recently • held by Butler and Clayton, and offered a rental of £10 per annum.—Consideration of this was deferred for one week.

WAKATIPU.

, Mr John Cameron asked permission to surrender Run 31, Wakatipu, being Unable to retain the same owing to losses sustained through snow and the destruction uf sheep by keas.— The consideration of this was referred to the Government.

WAIKOUAITI.

The Clerk of the Waikouaiti County Council transmitted for the approval of the Board plans of the road-lines on which they proposed to expend the amount to credit of the Council derived from blocks II and VI, Budlo, and block V, Dunback.— Referred back to the Council to apportion the amounts to be expended.

TABLE HILL.

, Ranger Hughan, reporting on the application of Henry Scott to purchase section 40 and part of section 42, block VI, Table Hill, stated that tho land is very rough, that thore is no timber thereon, and recommended that tlie application be granted. — Referred to the ranger to report whether section 42 may be sold in one portion or more.

CHATTON.

A request was considered from Mr Wm. Nichol to be allowed to purchase section 6, block XIII, in this district, and to open a new Channel for the stream between section 2, blook XIII, and section 9, block VIII, Chatton, in order to prevent th.c stream flooding his land.— Consideration was postponed for one week.

OCEAN BEACH.

Ranger Valpy reported that more sand was baing illegally removed from the hills at the Ocean Beach, near the point from which the romoval of sand wa3 formerly objected to, and suggested that someone should be empowered to lay information against offenders.—Resolved—" That in consequence of tho difficulty in duly supervising those who have obtained licenses from the Board for the removal of sand, the Board grant no more such licenses."

MOERAKI.

Ranger Valpy reported having inspected portion of section 57, block 111, m tins disjtrjet, leased to Mr G. W. sioner to take steps to re-enter and determine the lease, the rent being in arrear for more than 21 days, and there being a breach of covenant and agreement on the part of the lessee.

WAIKAKA.

Ranger Valpy reported on the applications of Messrs Swan and MThail and J. P. M'Kenzie to construct a tramway from their lignite pits through section 29, block VI, Waikaka, to the railway siding. It was recommended that permission be granted. — The Board decided not to offer any objection to the construction of the projected tramway. : The Ranger also reported on the application of Mr Huffman for a license over a portion of section 18, block I, Waikaka, recommending that it be refused.— The application was declined.

MAEHEWHENDA.

, Mr James M'Kay, of Livingstone, applied that section 12, block IX, in this district, at present withheld from sale for mining purposes, be opened for sale for agricultural purposes. — Referred to the warden to report.

POMAHAKA.

No wardens having been elected for this hundred for the present year, the New Zealand and Australian Land Company requested that a ranger be appointed under section 39 of " The Land Act, 1877."— 1t was resolved to appoint James R. Mitchell ranger for the Pomahaka Hundred.

WAIPORI.

Mr R. Robinson applied for a renewal o f license over that portion of reserve on which his yards are erected. The Waipori Road Board requested that the whole section be reserved for recreation purposes. — It was decided to recommend the Government to reserve the area formerly held under license by Messrs Pegus and Robinson for recreation purposes for the residents of Berwick and the surrounding district. ' APPLICATIONS TO LEASE, PURCHASE, ETC. The following applications to purchase under agricultural leases were approved:— John Kerr, section 11, block 111, Benger ; W. and J. Honnor, section 60, block IIL Benger ; T. G. Betts,(section 5, block V, Midi Wakatipu; T. Turner, section 19, block 111, Blackstone ; W. M. Devitt, section 25 ; block 111, Blackstone ; J. Thomson, section 4, block VIII, Maniototo. '■ The undermentioned applications to purchase it was resolved to submit for the Governor's approval :— F. Hiscock, section 26, block I, Teviot ; M. A. J. M'Guire, section 5 ; J. Sellars, section|6j and J. S. M'Whirter, section 7, block XII, Benger. The following applications to purchase under deferred-payment leases were approved :— Messrs W. and J. Honnor, [sections 51 to 59, block 111, Benger ; Patrick Kean, section 19, block 111, Tuapeka East ; David Wood, section 14, block VI, Chatton.
