PRESBYTERIAN SOIREE AT BLUESKIN.
The annual soiree in connection with the Presbyterian Church, Blueskin, was held on the evening of the 22nd inst. Unfortunately the weather was most unfavourable, and consequently there was only a very limited attendance of the settlers, who, under more favourable circumstances, would have been present to testify their appreciation of such a meeting. The tables were presided over by Mesdamea Charlton and Stewart and Misses Mary Mony and Mary Stewart, the substantial necessary for the occasion having been liberally bestowed by Mr Charlton. After tea had been partaken or, the Rev. Mr Finlayson, the paßtor, took the chair, and delivered a short address, suitable for such a meeting. He was followed by Mr Wright and Mr Torrance, from Dunedin, who delivored speeches on wellchosen subjects. Mr Stuart, the, teacher at the Maori school, also delivered an address. Each of the speakers regretted the unfavourable sta(o of the weather. Other gentlemen 'would have been present, but they were prevented attending by the same cause which operated so much against the meeting. At intervals selected hymns from Messrs Sankey and Moody's collection were rendered by the choir in a most effective manner, and at the conclusion of the speeches votes of thanks were passed to the speakers and choir, to the ladies for their attendance at the tables, and Mr Chaxlton for hia liberality in bountifully supplying the neceanary refreßhmentßi
