Waste Lands Board.

The regular meeting of the Board was held on Wednesday. Present: The Chief Commis- ■ lioner, Mr J. F. Maitland (in the chair), Messrs Butterworth, Clark, aud Green. The minutes of the previous meeting were ,' read and confirmed. MISCELLANEOUS. Banger Hughan having inspected deferred payment section 14, block H., Waikaka dis- , trict, licensed to Mr George Smith, stated that . the said section is not being occupied by the applicant, and that there are no improvements made thereon, and recommended that the ' license be cancelled. — It was resolved that the land should be re-opened for application. The Board considered a report by the Dis- ■ trict Land Officer, ou a request by W. J. Harrison, that he be allowed to occupy the Maori Point Reserve at the same rental per acre as 1 for his run (No. 29) adjoining.— The request "wss declined.

Hanger Hnghan reported on aa application by W. H. S. Roberts, for leases of sections 50, 51, 49, and 69, block VII., Waipahi district, under section 54, sub-section 5, Waste Laads ' Act. — The application was approved. A letter waa received from the Town Clerk, 1 of Queawtown, on the subject of a request by Richard Nesbit that section 11, block XIIL, '.Qneenstown, be submitted to auction at an 'WUriy'date.— -Consideration* deferred, the Chief Commissioner to write to the Queenstown Cor* - poration in the meantime, to ask the circumstances under which they claimed control over tho land as a Corporation reserve. The Banger transmitted an application by W. W. white, for license to occupy the re- , mainingportionof 18,blockL,Waikakadi3trict, for mining purposes, with a recommendation that the license of the said land be disposed of • "bf. auction. — The Board decided to grant the applicant two acres for mining purposes, but declined to lease the whole of the section. The Board considered a recommendation by , "the Warden at Arrow that sections 80, 81, and 8% block VIIL, Shotover, and sections 25, 26, and 90, block VIL, Shotover, should bo proclaimed open for application uuder the agricultural lease regulations. ' The Board decided to forward the Warden's recommendation for the consideration of the Government. A letter was received from Messrs Baker and ' Lindsay, requesting that the license of Messrs , Snarp »nd M'Xechnie for a bush aiea at Arrow be transferred to them.— The Board decided that the request could not be entertained. " ' :A- petition from the residents of Marewhenua, asking that the land contained in Bun No. 92 be not sab-divided nor sold, but retained for mining, was|brought before the Board. — Tha petition was referred to the Warden to report. John Mortimer 'a application to purchase section 6, block IL, Table Hill, under deferred ' payment lease, was approved. 2 J. E. Williams applied to purchase sections 28, and 29, block IL, Tuapeka West, under a deferred payment license.— Referred to the Warden for information as to whether the applicant resided on the land. Ah Hie applied to have his gold-mining lease : of .section 6, block VIIL, Skipper's Creek, cancelled—Approved. .The following certificates of application for ■ agricultural leases were submitted and ap- ( proved : — J. F. Hill and Joseph Maher, section 52, block L, Weadon district ; Charles Herling, section 31, block 1., Wendon district; Johann Gillarders, section 65 and part of 70, L block L, Wendon district j Frederick Mears, ■ section 64, block L, Wendon district. ' Mrs M. Hill requested that agricultural lease • Wo. 692, for section 8, block VII., Waitahuna -.West, be cancelled, and tee rents due upon the same by the late James Hill be remitted.— The Board resolved to cancel the lease. LEASB OP BUN NO. 28, WAITAKI. The Board resolved— "That notice be given - to the lessee of Kan No. 28, Waitaki district, i; that it is sot considered by the Board expedient tq re-lease for depasturing purpose? any portion lof^be said ran." . On the motion of Mr Gheen, it was resolved —"That,, in consequence of the opinion of the ■ Crown Solicitor "on the powers of tue Waste • Land* Board to re lease pastoral country now under lease, it is desirable to rescind the resolution No. 15, of the 6th June last, re the leasing again of part of Bun 28, Waitaki district ; acd that the opinion of the Judge of the Supreme - Court be obtained on the powers of the Board tmder the Act to fix an acreage rent in addition to the annual assessment." The Board adjourned.
