GENERAL ASSEMBLY.

Wellington, September 21st. The Oamaru Gas Works Bill passed through Committee.

In the House of Representatives at 2.30 today, a number of notices of motion were given. Mr W. Kelly asked what rent was paid for tha Government Offices at Gisborne, and if notice had been received by the Government to give them up. Reply.— Rent, L 225 Bs. No notice had been received.

Mr Bradshaw a3ked the intention of the Government as to the construction of a line of railway from Lawrence to Roxburgh. In reply, Mr Richardson said the Government did not ontemplate any action in the matter. Mr Bradshaw also asked the intention of the Government re the construction of a reservoir iv the Teviot district

Mr Richardson said the Government had not taken the matter into consideration, and had no intention to communicate.

Mr Bradshaw then announced he would take further action.

In reply to Mr Murray, Mr Richardson said tnat owing to unforsaen delays and accidents, and the work having had to be relet, the Glenore section of the Tokomairiro Railway will not be finished before 1576.

In reply to Mr Stout, Mr Richardson gave reason, at considerable length, for recommending the disallowance of the Invercargill Public Offices BilL It appeared that, after much correspondence and a lapse of time, an Ordinance was passed by the Otago Provincial Council which so curtailed the site for the proposed public buildings, by granting pieces of it to the Athenaeum, and for a crescent, that it would not be applicable for the purpose, being too small and shut in on three sides ; hence the disallowance.

The Abolition of Provinces Bill was postponed, in order that the House might consider a resolution of the Committee of Supply — Imprest Supply BilL I-arge accounts had been received from the Agent-General, which rendered additional votes by the House immediately necessary. At 3 p.m. the House went into Committee on the Imprest Supply Bill, and passed a resolution granting LIBO,OOO on imprest, the TreaBurer having explained to an enquiry by Mr .Wood, that the money was principally required for Immigration and Public Works. The resolution was reported to the House, and ordered to be considered to-morrow, the Treasurer saying he would then ask the House to pass it through all its stages.
