FOOTBALL.

A special' meeting of the football players selected to represent Otago in the Interoro vracud Match with Auckland took place at the Pavihon, Southern fiecreation Ground onSaturday ifternooa. Mr A. X, Smith, cap Urn of the Dnnedin Football Club, was voted to the chair. The hon. Secretary (Mr Eoae) explained that the gronnd at Caversham recommended for practice by the subcommittee had been pegged off into sections, and after careful enquiry he found that the BottthenrOval wasthe only suitable place da which to play the Interprovincial Match. After some .discussion, it was unanimously resolved-^ That the AockW Match be played on the Southern Oval, and that onr representatives meet for practice on the Town Belt." It was stated that the agitation regarding the Owl was due to the selfishness of only two or three members of ?? ?? ll S e fe. Cnckefc Olub » wh ° acknowJe4ged that the ground ww jn inferior con-

aitibn at 'the close" of last cricketing season. One member said that the cricketers, having pitched the wickets a month before the con> mencement of their season, had done more damage to the turf than the Football Club had. The representatives played a scratch match on the Oval, where there appeared to be ample room for them and the cricketers who were practising. The Auckland team ia expected here on the 20th inst. With reference to the proposed Southern trip of the Auckland football players, the Auckland correspondent of the New Zealand Times says :— About 17 fite young fellows have given in their names as willing to go, and it is probable that if more are wanted they will be forthcoming. As at present arranged, the men will leave in one of the Union Company's boats about the 27th inst. I may warn your players that they will find the Auckland boys tough customers to j tackle. Our football season up to the present has been a remarkably lively one, and our best players are in capital fettle. Of course we shall not be able to get all the best to go, but still the names indicate a very fair representation of our football talent. The team will leave fired with a resolution to carry all before them.
