Waste Lands Board.

The postponed meeting of the Waste Lands Board was held on the 3rd. There were present — The Chief Commissioner, Mr J. T. Thomson, in the chair, and Messrs Strode, Bastings, and Butterworth. LOWER HAWEA.— SURRENDER OP DEFERRED

PAYMENT SECTION.

Mr Charles Colquhoun wrote, surrendering section 6, block V., Lower Hawea district, taken on deferred payment, and requested the return of his deposit. , The surrender was accepted, but there was no power to return the deposit. The land should, it was resolved, be advertised as open again.

SHAG VALLEY. — APPLICATION FOR LAND.

Colonel Henry H. Kitchener, by Mr Henry Kitchener, wrote, applying to purchase a small piece of Crown land between his pre-emptive right and Shag River (being an area of 1 acre 2 roods) to complete bis property.

.The Board considered it was not advisable to part with the ground, and the application was refused.

I THE HAWKSBURY LAGOON AGAIN. This is a matter which has been up times out of number before the Board. Mr John Bright, on behalf of the Hawksbury Road Board, asked permission to draw of? the waters of the Hawksbury Lagoon. There are rival municipalities, and it appears one wants the Lagoon emptied in order that it may be planted with trees, and, ultimately, made fit for recreation ; and the other wants to, have the Lagoon as full as possible, so as to prevent the foul smells which arise whenever the bottom of the Lagoon is partly exposed. After some discussion, the following resolution was minuted :—" Board cannot interfere, but will offer no objections, if the* inhabitants desire the work to be done." ;>".. LAND NEAR CLYDE BRUGGE." ' Mr William Grant applied to be allowed to purchase three acres of land on run No. 3253, adjoining Clyde Bridge Reserve,- for the purpose of erecting a lime kiln. Applicant was directed that a survey should be submitted, as the first etep to consideration. RUN 331 — SITE FOR WOODSHED. The application of Mr Charles C. Boyes to purchase 10 acres on run 331 for his woolshed was, on the District Land Officer's advice, approved. EXPLANATIONS. Mr Robert W. Aitken wrote that Mr Mansion's assertion that the run applied for by him (Aitken) at Waiau contained 3000 acres was incorrect, and stated that there were only 500 acres of open land available for stock, and objected to the run being offered as 3000 acres instead of 1000, as orig inally proposed. There was also a compliment or two of a somewhat personal nature. Members considered that the auction would be the best test of the value of the run, and Mr Aitken's letter was " noted." CLUTHA SANDSMT. — EXTENDED LEASE. Messrs Connell and Moodie, for Mr Edward Murphy, applied for extension of term of lease at Clutha Sandspit, or to be allowed to purchase the land under the 39th clause of the Waste Lands Act of 1872. It was resolved that an additional seven years' lease be granted, the rent for the new term to be 6s per acre per annum, with consent of the Superintendent, and to commence on termination of the present lease. TOTARA ISLAND. — MOLYNEUX. Messrs Connell and Moodie, for Mr Robert Robson, applied to the Board to have Totara Island surveyed into five or ten acre sections before being offered for sale, under resolution of a previous meeting to sell. It was resolved that the Government be asked to survey the Island into ten acre sections. QUARRY RESERVE, AKATORE. Mr M. W. Hawkins, on behalf of M> William Wilaon, had applied to purchase the quarry reserve, being part of section 2, block 11., Akatore district, at 20a per acre, in order to complete bis property. There was no appearance of any. one in support of the application. AKATORE. — LAND TO COMPLETE PROPERTY.

Messrs Gillies and Street, for Mr Thomas Nutsford, applied to purchase at £1 per acre five chains on each side of section 36, block L, Akatore district, being about 41 acres, to complete his property. It was resolved that the Ranger's report be obtained.

PBE EMPTIVE RIGHT. Mr David M'Kellar applied for preemptive right on run 163, of 640 acres, being section ), block X., Crookston district. The matter was adjourned. THE WAIPAHEE VILLAGE RESERVE.

Mr Donald M'Laughlan applied to purchase or lease half an acre of the Waipahee Village Reserve, block V., east of and adjoining Williams's area on Main Road, Ashley Downs, Clinton, and subject to valuation for improvements being allowed at the end of the term.

It was resolved that the Government be asked to have this township surveyed into sections to meek the wants of the applicants,

Campbell, on lands m the Township of Pembroke were submitted for the approval of the Board. The ' valuations were approved of. WAIKAKA. — DEFERRED PAYMENT APPLICATION

HAVELOCK,— SECTIONS TO GO TO AUCTION, The District Land Officer at Lawrence repprted on the applications of Mr J. M'Kay to have sections 29, 30, and 31, block XXXL Havelock, submitted to auction. Objections to the sale had been lodged by Mr G. ]?, C. Browne.— lt was resolved that they be sold as land of special value, having been so long withheld from sale, upset to be £3 per acre, with' valuation added. TEVIOT DISTRICT.— APPLICATION FOR RESIDENCE

WAITAHUNA WEST.— OBJECTIONS TO APPLICATION. Objections were lodged by Mr G. Heath and others to the application of Messrs T. G. Robertson and A. Stewart for land situate on block X., Waitahuna West, being granted, firewood timber, which was wanted in the locality, growing on the land.— lt was mentioned that Mr Robertson's application had already been granted. The objections were " noted." TUAPEKA EAST.— AGRICULTURAL LEASE. Mr Finlay Munro wrote that he had con- " veyed his equity of redemption in the agricultural lease, 402 a, to Mr George Matheson, who washed to purchase section 22, block IV., Tuapeka East, which was under that lease, Mr Matheson was approved as purchaser. Hansen, the Secretary to the Waitahuna Miners' Association Committee, forwarded objections against the application of - Mr Thoma3, Murray for section 63, block IV, •' and section 25, block V, Table Hill, being granted, as the land was part of a mining reserve. Mr Murray's application was approved. PURCHASE AT £1 PER ACHE. Trotter, lessee of run 323, made application to purchase ten acres of. land, on which his wool-shed at Allen Creek is erected.. This land, Mr J. H. Harris stated for appli cant, waa not wanted for speculative purposes, but merely to cover some very heavy improvements. — The application was referred to the District Land Officer for advice, and as to any objections he might see. HIGHLAY DISTRICT. — APPLICATION FOR LAND. Mr W. E. Griffen applied to purchase section 1, block XI, Highlay district. The application was referred to the District Land Officer for his advice. CLYDE. — APPLICATION FOR LAND WITHIN' A , RESERVE. „/ The District Officer at Clyde wrote that Mr; Thomas Irwin had applied for a site within the town reserve there, and asked whether or not'the Board would entertain such an application. — The answer was a decided negative. HAVELOCK.— RESIDENCE AREA.; Mr Christopher Ward applied for permission to purchase his residence area at Havelock, being sections 4 and 5, block XXXII., or that they be submitted to auction at an early date. —The application was referred to the District Land Officer for his advice. OTEPOPO DISTRICT.-n-APPLICATION FORRESBRVE. Mr Connell, for Messrs Robert and Thomas Lindsay, applied to lease a reserve, being section 82, block VI., Otepopo district. The application was referred to the Road Engineer for his report. O AMARU DISTRICT.— APPLICATION FOR SECTION. Mr Connell, for Mr Thomas Everett, asked, the Board whether they were prepared to lease iection 50, block VI., Oaraaru district, to him. The land had been under agricultural lease which the Board had declared forfeited l ; and it was now resolved to. take immediate steps, in terms of the lease, for obtaining re-entry. CLARENDON DISTRICT.— LAND TO BE SOLD. Mr James Cosgrove applied for a renewal of his license for the land held by him for flaxcutting and flax-milling in Clareadon district. —The Board expressed its unwillingness to < grant licenses. Members recommended Mr Cosgrove to compete for the land at auction, and he said he wonld do ho. It was resolved ' that the land be sold as land of special value ' having been so long withheld from sale, and at the upset price of £1 per- acre— valuation for ' improvements to be added.
