PRESBYTERY OF DUNEDIN.
The Presbytery of Dunedin held its quarterly meeting in the First Church on Wednesday, There were present — The Moderator (the Rev. Win. Will), in the chair; Drs Stuart and Copland, the llevs. Watt, Johnstone, Gow, Blake, and Gregg, and Mr Dalgliesh. The meeting was opened with prayer.
The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed.
The Moderator's term of oilice having expirod. tho matter of the appointment of a new Moderator came uo. The llev. Mr Johnstone, who was next on the roll, was proposed as Moderator for the next six months, and elected ncm. nm, Tho llev. Mr Johnstone then took the chair.
A commission was handed in from Knox Church appointing Mr .Robert DalglietJi its commissioner. Mr Dalgliesh'h commission w<ib sustained.
At a Lite meeting of the Pre&bytery it was I'esulvcil that eight or nine mouths permission be given to tho Key. Dr Copland to visit Europe to recruit his health — .subject to tho Session of Noith Dunedin concurnng in the Sciine. The North Dunedin Session now reported, intimating to t-je Presbytery its unammuud and hearty concurrence in the application. Extracts frmn proceedings of Synod were then read.
The ltev. i\lr ttKJN'NEK, to whom two calls Irul been made — one from North Taieri, and tho oilier from Waitahuna — wrote that re had made up his miud to accept the call of the Waitahuna congregation. Under the circumstances it was resolved to desist from all further proceedings in reference to North Taieri.
Dr Coi'LAM) mentioned that the deputation appointed to lay the memorial on the running of Suii'lay trams before tno Government had done so, but, up to the present, ho was torry to say no answer had been made to it. Every courtesy ivjib of course afforded in the reception of the deputation, and in the hearing of the memorial, and promise was given tiiat it should lie taken into consideration. He wrote a note to Lli.3 Honour last week, rot^iu'st'iig or inquiring whether tho memorial had been consiideicd.'as tho Presbytery was to meet this week, but he had received no answer. Dr Sti/vut said ho might mention that ho had had a conversation with some members of the Executive on the subject, and ho had ascertained that the memorial from the Presbytery had been more thanonco before the Executive, was now under their consideration, and was receiving a very large amount of attentiou. An answer had not been returned because <ho Executive had not made up its mind yet, aud not from want of attention. The matter then dropped. Messrs W'alos, Hepburn, ami Dalgltesh were appointed assistants to the Kaikorai Kirk Session.
The Piesbytory adjourned, to meet in the First Church on tho firsb Wednesday ia Juno.
