[By Telegraph.] (from our own correspondent.) Melbourne, February 14th. The English Cricketers appear to be entering upon a more prosperous course. The victory at Bathurst against an indifferent local team was not much to boast about, and from all accounts the latest victory against the combined team at Sydney was nothing to be particularly proud of. In the second innings the Englishmen endeavoured to get j out so as to win the match, while the Colonials played loosely to try to keep the Englishmen at the wickets, and thus make it a drawn game, but the Englishmen were too knowing, and accomplished their purpose. The whole affair is discreditable, and has been much commented upon. On Thursday the Eleven set to work again at Sandhurst, entirely against a local team, and so far the locals have done well. The Englishmen have 102 to get to win the game. The Bendigo team in their first innings made 90, and in the second 165.
