THE FIRE BRIGADE.
The usual monthly meeting of the Volunteer Fire Brigade was held at the Engine Station, Hiph street, last evening, Captain Wain in the chair. The minutes of previous meetings and practices were read and confirmed. Mesarp H. Davis and Assr. Foreman Robertson presented the Library with several books, which were acknowledged by a vote of thanks, a3 also was a complete »et of Hansard forwarded from Wellington by His Worship the Mayor. The Secretary was instructed to write to the City Council, intimating thmt tbo members intended holding their anniversary supper ou the evening of the lut October. A committee was then formed, consisting of the whole of the officers, to confer with the Fire Brigade Committee of the City Council, for the carrying .out of the necessary arrangements, and also a committee of four to prepare the decorations. Captain Wain expressed a wish that the whole .of the members would put in an appearance next Wednesday (tomorrow) weak, as that would be the last pi-Actice previous to the election of new officers, which would take place at the ensuing monthly meeting. The following notice of motion to be discussed at the meeting in question was then laid on the table by Foreman Lewis: — "That the present hook and ladder company be dispensed with, and the Brigade bo formed into two hose companies instead. " Mr Alexander Findlayter was then proposed as a working member. On the motion of Lieut. Hobbs, it was resolved that a lotter of thanks should be sent to Mr Hcnningham for his kindness in supplying the Brigade with tho Echo newspaper during its existence. Tho members then separated, to meet again for practice tomorrow week.
