WARDEN'S REPORT.

Mr Warden Robinson, writing from Mount Ida under date August 31st, says that on the goldfield there are 800 European and 100 Chinese miners engaged, other pereons on the goldfielda numbering 1050, the total population being 1950. Miners' wages are from L 3 to L 3 12s per week. He also reports as follows :—: — " Although there have been some falls of Bnow during the month, and the mountains still retain their white covering, yet the season has, on the whole, been pleasant, and Spring seems to be fairly setting in. Mining operations are now being carried on without hindrance from the weather in all parts of the district except Mount Burster. Water is plentiful, and the claims, as a rule, in full work. The new proprietors of the Ida Valley Quartz claim and machinory have started the works again, and it io anticipated that they will find they have made a profitable speculation. The machinery for the Duke of Edinburgh Co. , at Macraes, has arrived on the ground. One of the principal topica of the month among minors has been the now goldfiold at the Marewhenua, but the miners in this district have mostly interests in claims or races which are teo valuable to leave. Afow, however, seem disposed to try what can be done in tho way of constructing waterraces on that Bide of the country.'*
