DUNEDIN TRADE REPORT.
Otago Witness Office, August) 19th, 1864. Business continues rather quiet, with a disposition on the part ot importers to continue pressing their stocks at auction. The result of this has been the establishment of a lower rate for almost every article. Buyers have availed themselves freely of these opportunities to stock themselves at low prices, lest there may soon be a reaction. It is still impossible to give a wholesale price for flour, the Aldinga, on Wednesday, having brought I advices of a decline in Melbourne'and Adelaide to £20 to £21. The consignees of the two Chilian cargoes in port have been holding for £23, but they are not now likely to realise £20. Flour for Australia is now on the water, not only from California and Chili, but from England. There is now every prospect of a permanent reduction in the price of bread. The following quotations may be considered rather high, inasmuch as the prices of many articles have been materially altered by the auction sales, which have been frequent of late.
