NEW SOUTH WALES.

(From the Sydney Morning Herald.) REVENUE OF THE YEAR 1851. It is satisfactory to find, from the Revenue Returns for the quarter and for the year ended the 31st December, 1851, that both on the quarter and on the year there has been a considerable increase, and that this has been the case both with the General and with the Crown Revenue. As regards the Crown Revenue, it is, we believe, an unprecedented fact, that for the quarter that branch of the public income shows not one item of decrease, and for the year but one. The income of the quarter, compared with that of the corresponding quarter in 1850, was as follows : —

Fourth Quarter of 1850. 1851. Increase. General Revenue . . £54,728. . . . £74,491 .... £19,7b3 Crown Revenue.... 10,650 44,552.... 33,902

Totals £65.378 £119,013 £53,665 This increase in the General Revenue is at the rate of 36 per cent. ; in the Crown Revenue, 318 per cent. ; and in the Total Income, 82 per cent. It should be borne in mind, however, that the Crown Revenue for the past quarter has the advantage of the proceeds derived from our Gold Fields, which in the fourth quarter of the previous year was wholly unknown. These proceeds were, for licenses to search and dig, £21,456; for Escort and Conveyance, £2,045 ; together, £23,501. Deducting this sum, the increase in the Crown Revenue is still £1*0,400, or nearly 100 per cent. The Customs show a net increase on the quarter of £12,837, or 34 per cent. The Postage shows an increase of £2,746, or 85 per cent. The Revenue of the Whole Year was as" follows : —

1850. 1851. Increase. General Revenue £248,613. . . .£277,793. . . .£29,180 Crown Revenue.. 68,678.... 127,305.... 59,127

Totals £319,291 £406,591 £88,307

The increase on the General Revenue was about 11 per cent.; on the Crown Revenue, 86 per cent. ; and on the Total Income, about 27 per cent.
