AMERICAN NEWS.

(From the Sydney Morning Herald.)

J!r.om .files of San JFiauciscc journals la .the Jjth November, eight days later than pui- previous advices, we are enabled to make the following summary of American news.

As regards the Spanish States of America, every arrival at San Francisco brought intelligence of the progress of popiilar insurrection. The California Courier says, — '

. Internal sfeuds and. convulsions are rapidly'hastening these States to destruction. .The BepubliCfOf Mexico will soon cease, to ha^e'an existence, .as *fill as & name .among the nations of the wcrld. Five, of the past (populous, arid >j>rjo4iwtivfiSt{tj§9^f tfcat

confederacy ate now in open revolt against the central government. These five States propose to establish a republic of their own. The ulterior object ? no doubt, is to be annexed to the United States.

There is comparatively but little spirit of nation ality among the Mexicans. The people are so constantly annoyed and disturbed by ambitious military chieftains, that they would submit to almost any terms which would rid them of these men. If $ie revolted States succeed in maintaining their own independence, as we have no doubt they will, Mexico, as a republic, is literally used up. The other States may have an existence for a while as a confederacy, but before long they will throw themselves into the arms of Brother Jonathan to take care of them.

Nicaragua, too, is in a state of disorganization, and may be said to have already lost its existence as an independent State. The whole country will fall into our hands before we are ripe for it! The people are all " fat, ragged, and dirty, 1 ' and live without knowing what they live for. The country is one of the most delightful and productive in the world, and it ought to be in the hands of a better race of men.

New Granada also seems to be fast preparing to disband, and yield to the necessity which destiny has allotted her. Brother Jonathan's sons are there, and although they are not disposed to "give aid and comfort" to those who are attempting to revolutionize that State, yet the power of our institutions is both seen and felt among the natives. A few years more, and ■oil will be ove.r with the descendants of the ho.uses of Leon and Castile in that country. It will soon fall into the hands of the universal Yankee

Peru is asleep just now, but her neighbours in Chili are not. The last intelligence brings us the news of internal political convulsions in that Republic, which threaten the very existence of the State. It is impossible to say yet whether the government party or the revolutionists will succeed. The opposition to the government is too powerful to be quelled without great injury to the nation. Anglo-Saxon civilization and Anglo-Saxon dominion must inevitably prevail from Oregon to Cape Horn. It is our destiny. Our only hope and desire is that we may not be in too great a hurry abou^; carrying it out.

From New York dates have been received, via, Panama, to the 28th September, haying reached San Francisco in 37 days. The following are the chief items of interest : —

Letters by the Africa state that France, Spain, and England are negotiating a treaty respecting the government of Cuba. The conditions are, that Cuba shall have a local legislature, be represented in the Madrid Cortes, and that slavery shall be gradually abolished.

James Eennimore Cooper, -the distinguished novelist, died September 14th.

Abolitionism; in Virginia. — The Vigilance Committee of Grayston Country, Virginia, on the 13th inst., arrested John Cornutt, a friend of Bacon's, the Ohio Abolitionist. They required him to renounce abolition sentiments, which he refused -to do. They then stripped him, tied him to a tree, and after receiving one dozen lashes, he agreed to renounce abolitionism, sell his land and negroes, and leave the State. Great excitement prevailed, and the Committee were in pursuit of others.

The Duke of "Wellington and his Tenantry, The Duke pf Wellington has abated the rents of his Strathfieldsaye estates. His G-race inquired -the steward if he had made any abatement of the rentals. The steward jeplied that he had not, for the tenants had^aU paid cheerfully* without asking fpr any reduction. The Duke replied,-that was ithe-wry reason why the abatement should be made, and ac directed that it should be made on the last' as well as on the rentals of the .current year.

,Sxjb-Marixe TJeijepsaph.— The general enquiry here amongst seamen and others is, " Will it answer ?'* and the only answer is, " The seais an awkto .deal- with." express ./surprise. #iat '^the^.land-ly^bersi" as they, are- caUeji, did-not carry out " yarn" enough to traderlay- t Qt&39ptttde, and- in 'their innocent ignorance, musing '^6*er a .;'• Qwid,"- inquire what on" earth we want with getting so near the, iF.r/QRGh as to .be withja #peskjng tance*.
