Transport By Rail.
j , A BIG MOVING DAT. Three farmers and their families, live-stock, farm implements, niotor : lorries, motor-ears, furniture, and other goods—such was a shift effected smoothly by the Railway Department from Bunnythorpe and* Feilding to Putaruru recently. The train for big move comprised one carriage and twentv-four wagons —a total loaded weight of about 250 tons. The consignors desired that all of these wagons should arrive at the destination by the same train, as they wished to use the motor-cars, lorries;" and horses for the conveyance of their families, furniture, etc., to farms about sixteen miles distant from tbe rail. Those three families (including infants in prams or bassinets) left Feildin<r at 2.15 a.m. one day, and at daylight next morning the unloading operations were in full swing at the destination. .. On that long journey it was necessary to milk some of the dairy cows ana attend to other stock when a suitable opportunity was available. Goods From Overseas. The Railwav Department kas a complete svstem of co-operation with shippin- interests and the Customs officer, for the prompt clearance and forwarding of goods from overseas to their deftination a . This comprehensive service has.proved very beneacial to people in scattered country settlements and inland towns. ;,.■■• !
