REPORT BY TH3 ENGINEER. The -County Council on Saturday received tho following report fv.-m the engineer (Mr. .T. T. M. Brewster): Main Highways. No. 1 Highwnv: AVaikanao River to Otaki Bridge.— Repairs to shoulders of the payment, where required, have been carried out by way of metal patching. Otaki River to Mariakau Stream.— Repairs to 1 fi<• shoulders of the pavement have been tarried out where required. Levin to Wirokino Bridge.—General maintenance, by way of metal patching and grading, lias been carried out on this length of road. No. (il) Highway: Levin to Wirokino Boundary.—General maintenance work by way of metal patching, 135 cubic yards, and grading have been carried out on the unpaved portion of this Shannon to North Boundary.—General maintenance by way «>f metal patching and grading have been carried out (.11 this road. The Kara Stream bridge approaches have been completed, and traffic was allowed over the bridge oh July 14th. The crusher at Tokomaru River lias been employed crushing metal for the main highway, mostly for inundation work between Tokomaru River and the North Bou»d----n cy. Xo. 37.1 Highway: General maintenance work has been carried out on tm>.road. Thrc 0 collapsed wooden culverts have been replaced with reinforced concrete pipes. Riding Matters. To Horo.-Th o gra ,ler h as been at work on Mangaone, Otaki Gorge and Hautero Cross roads. Scrub. and growth generally, has been cut back on the sides of" Rahui Road. Otaki.—Water-tables on Manalcnu township roads have bee,, cleaned out. An. earthenware culver: has been put in on Waifcawa Beach Road near Drake's. ' "Wirokino. —Maintenance metal has been put on Rosiyn. Fairfield and Itea-thorlea-Koputaroa Roads. The roller has been working on Rosiyn. Fairfield and Koputaroa • ■ Roads. ■ The grader has been over Bruce. Bolton. BuHer. Florida, Muhunon, East and McLeavcy Roads. Tokomaru. —The grader has been at work on Hume's and Akers' Roads. A certain amount r.f gravid patching has been carried out oh Hume's Road. Tlie amount of gravel put out is governed try the rise and fall of tho Maiiawntu River, from which, the gravel is-being obtained. The con true tor ha:; completed metalling 81 chains of Pretoria Road, putting out a total of 152 cubic yards.
