< THE STORY. Dick Bailey's best friend, a young rancher, is shot and killed by a mysterious assailant. Dick suspects Stack, a. J Western bad-man m league with bhe crooked sheriff. Dick, on a spree, declares he will marry the first white ' woman he meets. ] The woman happens to be Ruth Hammond, sister of the dead rancher, ' who has just arrived m town to tnk- ' charge of her brother's ranch.. Dick's rough proposal -is insulting to Rutn ' and when he realises his fault, he is conscience-stricken. Dick , arranges with Pie Pan, a comic peddler, to take Ruth to the ranch. Pie. Pan offers to secure'cowboys for Ruth and she accepts. When he introduces Dick as one of the men. he has procured,; she won J t hire them. They leave, but return later to save her from attack by Stack who has come to inform -Ruth tlfat the ranch is his, he" declared he purchased the * property for the past-due taxes. Dick's help- forces Ruth to relent and she agrees to hire him and his boys. . Dick- believes Stack paixl the taxes with- gold stolen from Ruth '-s- brother. Through a ruse, he and his pals steal the. gold from the sheriff's office * nd pay Ruth's taxes with it. Dick, now thoroughly; dn love with Ruth, is hurt and disappointed when Bob Drexell, an avowed suitor \ arrives at the ranch and pro c eeds to -take, charge. Dick thinks Ruth loves Bob Drexell. He resents Drexell's-offici-ousness, A and a fistfight between them is only prevented by the arrival of Stack and a sheriff's posse-— come to arrest Dick for stealing the gold." Dick- and the cowboys barricade tremselves m the ." ranchrhouse. Stack and his men surround the house t but Dick, taking a desperate chance, runs to tho corral aqd stampedes the horses to.wards Stack's men. He captures Stack 'and forces him to confess he killed Ruth's' brother uid stole his gold. Stack attempts to break away and is killed m a running duel. Dick is wounded.
