SHEEP AND LAMB MARKET FIRM.

IMPROVEMENT IN CATTLE PRIOES.

Fat cattle met with a brisk demand at tbe Burnside sales on Wednesday, and taken all through tho market showed an improvedtone. The entry also included a good percentage of well-finished cows and heifers. Prime bullocks showed an improvement m price from 10s to 15s per head. There was a better sale for cows and heifers. The sheep entry was a large one, which included a fair number of wethers lacking finish, but the proportion of heavy wethers was sufficient for trade requirements. The entry also included a number of good ewes, which sold at an advance of 9d per. head. Heavy-weight sheep were firm, and ultimately sold at prices a shade dearer than last week. Lambs were also forward m large numbers. Last week's prices were fully maintained. Prices for prime lamb were on a basis lof about 9|d per lb. Pigs met with a dragging sale, and prices, if anything, were slightly easier. There was no improvement m the store cattle market. ■

Sheep. —A largo entry, uunibering 2,412 head. Extra prime heavy weight wethers made up to 41s; prime, 37s to 395 ; medium, 31s to 365 ; extra prime heavy-weight ewes sold up to 345; prime, 24s 9d to 27s 6d; medium, 19s to 225; light and aged, up to 13s 9d.

Lambs.*— rA large entry, numbering about 1,150 head. Extra prime lambs sold up to 32s ; prime, 27a to 29s 6d ; medium, 25s to 265 ; lighter sorts, up to 20s.

Fat Cattle.— A large yarding, numbering 255 head. Extra prime heavyweight bullocks sold fromLl4 ids to Lls 10s ; prime, Ll3 10a toLI3 10a ; medium, LlO to Lil 15s; light and

inferior sorts, L 6 10s to L9. Prime cows and heifers sold from L 7to L 8 10s; medium, L5 to L 6 15s j inferior sorts, L 3 to, Ll ss.

Store Cattle. — A full yarding, which included a few pens of. good three and four-year-old steers at cheap rates, only realising up to L 3 17s per head. Fat cows and heifer-5 also sold at cheap rates, while young cattle, were hard to quit. Daii-y Cattle. — About thirty head were offered. Previous prices were fully maintained. Best (Sows inadu up to L9 ; good heifers to' L 8 10s : and aged cows from L3 to Li. Pigs. — A medium yarding, consist ing mostly of porkers. Best baconers sold on a basis of about 6^d, and best porkers about Bfd per lb.
